Our Approach

The current look-for-less-culture might be pretty, but it will never last. At Rara Forma, our goal is to craft heirloom quality fixtures that will stand the test of time both physically and aesthetically. We have a passion for timeless design, handcrafted materials and quality, artisan craftsmanship you can feel and see.

All Rara Forma fixtures are made right here in our Appalachian studio. Each piece is made-to-order: meticulously hand-crafted, hand-finished and hand-assembled in our studio with an honest approach to materials and processes.

Studio Workshop

The Founder

Hi, I’m Paul. The proverbial “we” gets used a lot when talking about the studio but Rara Forma is just me. From the designs to the metalwork, from the finishing and assembly to the shipping and answering your emails, it's just me.

I worked for years as a graphic and web designer before spending over a decade in the world of vintage furniture and clothing. It was there I fell in love with collecting, repairing and restoring mid-century lighting. That passion eventually led to building custom light fixtures for a few local businesses and has since become a full-fledged lighting + design studio with clientele from around the world.

I’m fortunate to have found a way to make my artistic and aesthetic passions my job. Everyday I get my hands dirty exploring new ideas, new forms, new finishes and new techniques. I’m humbled and honored every time someone chooses a piece that is borne from my hands and hard work to adorn their homes and light their lives.
